Google Alerts
One of the most important things you can do is to keep abreast of what’s happening within your market- what’s hot and what’s not, who is hiring and who’s firing, what’s in the offing and when there is nothing. One of the easiest ways to do that is to sign up (free) to Google Alerts.

http://www.google.co.uk/alerts

In simplistic terms, you key in a word or phrase and set it up as an alert so that you get an email with the link when there is activity on the net with your key words or phrases. You can be alerted as it happens, daily or weekly. So you can key in a client’s name that you want to be up to date with, a person, a competitor or even jobs when advertised.  Candidates and clients want to talk with people in the know. These alerts will keep you fully up to date when there is new activity on the net ensuring you can make the right calls quickly and, most probably, ahead of your competition too.
